An Angry Man Writes.... We are Southampton - We Don't Care About You

"6 months work, 5 years money - Where do I sign?"

Mauricio Pochettino is about to send us Saints fan an open letter as he’s just left for fucking Spurs.  Don’t bother mate as I can’t be arsed to read it.  I guess it will say something about Spurs being a massive club which means he's swallowed the delusions of grandeur bullshit that emanates from every pore of every Tottenham fan. The last entry I wrote about the media speculation contained the following lines…

Mauricio Pochettino – Usually you’d say that a manager is the most replaceable but at this point in time; I consider the retaining of the manager to be the key to the whole thing.  In my opinion, it would be a disaster if he left as it would say that the Board aren’t prepared to fund things to a level that can improve us and everyone with ambitions to move higher will be looking for the exit door.  Gutted factor 11/10

All of these Gutted factors are based on the player or manager moving to one the current top 4 or Manchester United who will be back.  If they move to Tottenham then you can multiply the gutted factor by at least two.

I hate open letters..... so here's an open letter to Mauricio Pochettino

Fuck you Mauricio.  No one else is to blame.  You said you were an honourable man who worked the length of his contracts.  How does that one sit with you now?  I guess the caveat was that you worked your contracts unless someone comes along with shitloads of cash – not that you were on a paupers wage either and no doubt there was a load of cash on the table in the new contract that you didn’t sign.

We finished 8th this season which was a fantastic effort and it could have been higher.  Maybe if we’d had a plan B when possession wasn’t enough or maybe we would have finished higher if the one big money buy that you knew about before, Dani Osvaldo, wasn’t an unmitigated disaster.  I’ll forgive you if you give us £15million for him and take him to Spurs.  I bet he manages to settle into the English game just fine with a backdrop of the bright lights of London.  It’s odd that the foreign players we signed that were successes were the ones with the best attitude like Dejan Lovren and Victor Wanyama.  Dani Osvaldo is obviously a bit like yourself – first bump in the road then he's off.

So, what was the problem?  No £50 million transfer kitty like Cortese gave you – that was easy fir him as it wasn’t his money.  Was it that Adam Lallana wants a move?  Maybe if you’d committed to Saints then he wouldn’t have.  I guess that your best players were sold from under you at Espanyol so you didn’t fancy it happening here. Here’s an ‘off the top of my head’ list for you – Berbatov, Bale, Carrick – all players in the relatively recent past that Spurs wanted to keep but got sold because a load of money got waved at them and they wanted to go.  It happens to everyone – Alex Ferguson had to sell Ronaldo - but the good managers deal with it and get on with it.  There is no ‘football’ reason for joining fucking Spurs.  They are at the limit of their potential as well.  Good luck trying to get them into the top 4.  They are a basket case and always will be whilst Levy is in charge.  They will spend millions and achieve the same as they always do – 5th to 7th and the manager will be sacked.  That’ll be you soon enough but with a 5 year deal – who cares.  You were popular here and could have achieved great things and the fans would have backed you no matter what.  You’ll soon find out that that’s not the case at Spurs.  Martin Jol finished 5th and the fans wanted him out.  Harry Redknapp finished 4th and the fans wanted him out.

Some history for you - Glenn Hoddle got us to 7th one season and went to Spurs as soon as they came knocking.  That was more understandable as he was a Spurs legend and that was definitely his spiritual home.  He brought his Spurs team to St Mary’s and we beat them 4-0.  Then we went to White Hart Lane and beat them 3-1 and he got sacked the game after.  Careful what you wish for.

Thanks for the memories.  I loved the football we played and the season we had this year as well as the wins against the big boys we had in your first season.  You were incredibly fortunate to have been appointed as the youth programme which was put in place before Cortese and before you, bore fruit at exactly the point that you showed up.  You’ve done well to give the youngsters a chance and everyone has supported that.  As I said, we finished 8th and next season could realistically expect to challenge Everton and fucking Spurs for 6th place with a couple of additions.  Shame you were too keen to jump ship to see this through.

Off you fuck.  I look forward to you speaking English in press conferences, especially when the London media turn on you and crank up the pressure – which they will.  You could have been a legend, you could have had the freedom of the city but instead you’re just another tosser who pissed off as soon as someone waved more money at him.  I won’t boo your presence at St Mary’s next season – I’m too old for that shit.  I hope that the fixture is in the first half of the season or you just might not be around for it.

We are Southampton – we don’t care about you.

  5. Fuck me, what a load of shit. This is football and money talks, but also the stature of a football club also has a lot to do with it. No disrespect to Southampton FC, but spurs are on a whole different level, in terms of size, fan base, finances, sponsorship, world wide recognition, player acquisitions and so on. The guy is obviously ambitious and will probably use spurs as a stepping stone if he is successful there and a bigger club comes calling. It's called reality and you need to get a fucking big grip on it!

  7. Dazza I understand football's about money, this was a good true read. Spurs on a different level have a wipe. Saints produce far more talent and if they keep paying SAINTS YES SAINTS will continue to help them improve by supplying them with talent if not from players but in managers!!! SPURS ARE NO BIGGER THANK STOKE FACT, SPURS ARE NO BIGGER THEN MY SHED FACT

  8. Southampton have been doing this for years to clubs in the lower divisions, picking off the better younger players and claiming them as their own. Its just how football is, Your not the biggest beast in the jungle. Spurs **** on Southamption, Southampton will **** on a team lower down.
